The COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) is a public university in Pakistan, previously known as the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT). It has multiple campuses.
Electrical and chemical engineering at COMSATS is rated #1 in Pakistan in the latest QS Subject Rankings 2021. COMSATS Islamabad University (CUI) is administered by the Commission on Sustainable Science and Technology in the South.
COMSATS UNIVERSITY Islamabad Overview
The University was created by the Commission for Sustainable Development Science and Technology (COMSATS) in 1998, and the Government of Pakistan gave its first Charter in August 2000.
In October 2015, Palestine joined COMSATS as its 23rd Member State. S. M. Junaid Zaidi is the university’s founding rector and served until March 2017. The post of Rector was empty for almost three years until Muhammad Tabassum Afzal was appointed Rector in July 2020. And was charged, following his transition from an IT Institute and a complete university with a new governance structure, with the university heading it. Comsats was considered Pakistan’s first elite IT Institute.
COMSATS UNIVERSITY Islamabad Rating
The University was rated among the top 250 Asian universities by QS University Rankings in 2014 and is ranked first in the country, by natural index, in computer sciences and IT. CIIT is rated among Pakistan’s top ten universities in the latest HEC rankings.
He is also a member of the Commonwealth Universities Association. In its 6 satellite campuses, its main school, situated in Islamabad, has more than 8,500 students and 30,000 more. Its student organization also comprises foreign students from more than 9 nations.
It comprises 20 departments combining 100-degree programs and has produced over 315 PhDs since its establishment. It also created the first student startup business center (SSBC) in the nation to assist and promote enterprise and innovation in its academic environment.

QS rankings ranked among the world’s top institutions in 801-1000 according to the QS World Universities Rankings 2020. In addition, QS Asian Universities rated 135th in 2019. It also earned the coveted three-star rating by QS in 2013.
University Shanghai Rankings
Shanghai Rankings First rated in Pakistan, amongst 501-600 worldwide universities, with the renowned 2019 Shanghai Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
The Institution of COMSATS is a multi-campus university. The university also includes sub-campuses in Lahore, Attock, Vehari, Abbottabad, Wah, and Sahiwal as well as a virtual campus, in addition to the main campus in Islamabad.
The main campus was founded in Islamabad in 1998. The institution provided just certain certificate courses and post-graduate degrees in computer studies with only one classroom and minimal resources during its initial year of existence.
The Islamabad campus is located in Islamabad, Chak Shahzad. More than 8,055 students are now enrolled in various degree programs. The freshly constructed campus is completely equipped with international-level amenities. It is a wonder of contemporary architecture, with a luxuriant green landscape and a tranquil setting.
The campus in Abbottabad was opened in July 2001 and the first academic session began in September 2001. This facility is conveniently located near Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul. The campus consists of 308 channels rented by the Pakistan Army at Tobe Camp.
Campus Attock was set up in 2004. The program offers 4 departments, 9 undergraduate and 6 graduate programs, more than 2,650 students, 179 qualified professorships, including 55 PhDs.
The campus, established in 2008, began with 45 students enrolled in one curriculum and currently consists of over 2,385 students, over 180 teaching members, 14 programs, and 3 academic functional blocks.
Lahore Campus Located 01 km off Raiwind Road, Defense Road. The central city is a 30-minute drive away. It was founded in January 2002.
Wah Cantt Campus
The establishment of the COMSATS university at Wah was a joint endeavor between the institution and the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) in Wah Cantonment. In a record 70 days, university administration began campus at Wah.
On 14 September 2001, the then Minister of Science and Technology and Chancellor of the University officially opened the Institute. Initially, Wah campus began operating at POF’s tiny guest home. In 2003, a long-term lease period was passed on by POF to the university by two purpose-built academic buildings.
Wah campus expanded its teaching facilities in 2012 by acquiring 96 channels of land next to the current campus. The school has recently purchased 20 acres of property on the M1 highway near Brahma Bahtar Interchange to suit its future academic needs.
The Sahiwal campus was officially opened in September 2007. It includes seven academic departments and ten additional departments of services. There are 3800 students from various disciplines.
