In Pakistan’s parliamentary system, the prime minister is sworn in by the president and is usually the president or chairman of a party or coalition with a majority in the National Assembly – the House of Representatives of Pakistan.

Partition of India

After the partition of India at midnight on 14-15 August 1947, Pakistan followed the British regime, where it established the post of Prime Minister in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

On the advice of the country’s founding fathers, the then Governor-General of Pakistan, Ali Ali Khan, appointed Liaqat Ali Khan to establish and manage his administration on 15 August 1947. Prior to the presidential regime in 1960, seven prime ministers served between 1947 and martial law in 1958.

In 1971, the office was restored again but soon ceased to exist. The authorities and executive authorities were transferred to the Prime Minister when Pakistan’s full constitution was promulgated in 1973. But the post was effectively suspended after another martial law was passed in 1977.

1985 General Elections

After the 1985 general elections, the Office came into existence. From 1988 to 1999. Benazir Bhutto of the Pakistan People’s Party and Nawaz Sharif of the Muslim League (N) served in the office for two consecutive terms between 1988 and 1999: Bhutto 1988-1990 and 1996 1996; and Sharif in 1990-1993 and 1997-1999.

After the general elections held in 2002, Zafarullah Khan Jamali was invited to form his administration as prime minister. After the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision to annul Prime Minister Yousuf Raz Gilani in 2012. Raja Pervez oversaw his administration until an interim administration was established under Mir Khazar Khan Khusu.

Sharif was re-elected for a third consecutive term on June 5, 2013, a record in the history of Pakistan. In Pakistan’s national politics throughout its history. The military division has dominated Pakistan’s armed forces, but political parties now dominate it.
